Climate smart self-levelling compounds

Climate smart is a word that should be used more. Our population is growing all the time and we need more buildings to take care of each other in a good way. Whether it is schools, housing, shopping centers or other buildings we need in our everyday lives for society to function, it needs to be built. To build is to impact. You can impact less by being smart.

Our impact can be both great or less great. We at Combimix constantly strive to keep our footprint in the environment as small as possible. We do this by everything from purchasing products with as little impact as possible to sorting any leftover residue in our processes. In between, there is a lot going on at all our stages so that as little resources as possible are lost. We, as in all manufacturing industries, waste a lot of energy. To minimize our impact as much as possible, we only use renewable energy.

Blast furnace (GGBS) as binder

In our largest product group, self-levelling compounds, we are one of the largest manufacturers in Sweden and it commits. We have used GGBS in our self-levelling compounds since the beginning. This we have had to defend for many years when it has had an unearned bad reputation as "residual product". Today we all know that the best thing we can do for the environment and everyone around us is to use residual products for something good and not increase our environmental footprint more than we have to.

GGBS is used in Combimix self-levelling compounds as a binder, which reduces our environmental impact with the equivalent of a car's carbon dioxide emissions of 7550 laps around the earth compared to if we would only produce with cement. Our self-levelling compounds are a climate smart choice.

Environmental Product Declaration

To document the environmental impact of our products, we have made an EPD, Environmental Product Declaration. EPD is an information system that describes the environmental impact of products and services from a life cycle perspective. The purpose of this is to provide quality assured and comparable information on the environmental performance of the products. EPDs are currently registered from 45 countries and five continents.

The EPD for our self-levelling compounds shows us how good we are, but also gives us a measure of where we stand and where we take off from to improve ourselves further. “The journey has just begun” is a good expression of the will and glow that exists at all stages of us at Combimix.
